The Azerbaijani delegation participated in the 72nd Session of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Europe, held in Malta on 12-14 May 2026.

During the session, participants exchanged views on the proposal to designate 2027 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism with the aim of promoting sustainable and resilient tourism development.

Within the framework of the meeting UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais presented a report entitled “Global Vision and Regional Priorities”.

A decision was also adopted to hold the 73rd Session of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Europe in Montenegro in 2027.

The programme additionally featured a thematic conference titled “Advancing Tourism for the Future We Want: A Policy Dialogue on Balancing Growth, People and Planet”, where participants discussed the role of public policies in fostering sustainable tourism development, enhancing the well-being of local communities and preserving environmental balance.
